Power System Design

The power system is the backbone of the building, and we design it for today's load and tomorrow's expansion. We run the connected and demand load calculations, size the service and distribution with headroom for growth — not just the code minimum — and produce the one-line and riser diagrams that show how power flows from the service entrance through every piece of gear.

Because the engineer sits a few desks from the electricians who will install the work, switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, and feeders are selected to fit the load, the electrical room, and the budget. We design the transformers, generators, and automatic-transfer schemes that keep critical systems powered, and size conductors and raceways for voltage drop, heat, and the NEC so feeders perform and pass inspection. On Tucson projects we coordinate the service, metering, and point of connection directly with TEP or Trico and design the service entrance to the utility's specification.

Lighting & Photometric Design

Lighting engineered for code, energy performance, and how the space is actually used — with the photometrics to prove it. We produce point-by-point photometric layouts from IES files so interior, exterior, parking, and site lighting hits the right levels and uniformity, and we select fixtures and run the calculations that balance light quality, energy, and cost.

Energy-code lighting-power and controls requirements are designed in from the start and documented for plan review — including the occupancy, daylight, and networked controls that cut operating cost. Emergency and egress lighting is engineered so exit paths stay lit when normal power is lost, and designed by people who know what local inspectors look for.

Arc Flash & Coordination Studies

The calculations that keep electrical systems safe, code-compliant, and reliable — and protect the people who work on them. We calculate available fault current at every point in the system, coordinate breakers and fuses so the device closest to a fault trips first, and run the arc-flash incident-energy analysis and equipment labeling that NFPA 70E requires. We also analyze power quality and harmonics on systems with drives and electronics, and design the grounding and bonding underneath it all.

Special Systems & Controls Design

The low-voltage and intelligence layer, designed alongside the power system instead of bolted on after it. We design fire-alarm and mass-notification systems and coordinate them with the life-safety and fire-protection scope, and we lay out the structured-cabling and communications backbone — rooms, pathways, and capacity for today and for the tenant after next.

On the controls side, we design building and lighting control systems with real sequences of operation, plus the motor controls, VFD applications, and instrumentation that feed them. Security, access control, and CCTV are engineered with the infrastructure they actually need, so the integrator isn't fishing for pathways after drywall.

Documentation & Permitting

Drawings and submittals that clear plan review and build cleanly in the field. We produce permit-ready construction documents and specifications, design to the NEC and local amendments, and prepare the submittals the authority having jurisdiction requires — including City of Tucson and Pima County permit submittals, which we work with week in and week out. Where the project or the jurisdiction requires it, we coordinate PE-stamped drawings.

We also prepare and shepherd the utility service applications that get a project connected, model in BIM/Revit to resolve clashes with the other trades before they reach the field, and manage submittals and RFIs through construction — closing out with record (as-built) documents the owner can actually use.
